A very large (M9.0) earthquake and the subsequent tsunami hit Tohoku-Kanto area in Japan on March 11th, 2011. The accident of nuclear reactors in Fukushima is also a serious problem and not yet settled down although enormous efforts of the related people have been made.
J-PARC/MLF and JRR-3 were also seriously damaged by the earthquake. Japanese neutron scientists and students were shocked with the damages. After the earthquake, we have received kind messages and offers of support from allover the world. We were very much encouraged by them.
We will hold 1st Asia-Oceania Conference on Neutron Scattering (1st AOCNS) as scheduled although we have to make minor changes in the conference site and the J-PARC tour.
We are sorry that the preparation of AOCNS is delayed due to the effects of the earthquake and tsunami. Many of the organizing and local organizing committee members suffer with the effects of the earthquake, but will soon come back to the preparation work of AONSA, and inform you the revised information of the conference through email and the web site.
We would greatly appreciate your cooperation on the 1st AOCNS and hope that many colleagues will participate the conference.
We look forward to seeing you in Tsukuba.
Chair of the Organizing Committee
