Windows XP will be prohibited to be connected to J-PARC LAN after MS support end on Apr. 9 2014.
Dear JLAN users
October 9th, 2013
Microsoft has been announced that their support for Windows XP and Office 2003 ends on April 9, 2014 It is widely recognized that continuing use of those systems after the support end might have plenty of security risks, such as viral infection, information leakage, remote abuse and so on.
Both JAEA and KEK directed that the system should be shifted from Windows XP to successors or other supported OSs to avoid such risks.
For applying these measures correspondingly, at J-PARC center, Windows XP system will be prohibited connecting to JLAN after the support end.
We strongly recommend you plan to replace your XP with enough time to spare.
In addition please care XP not only as a main OS but also in following ways of use.
*XP mode on Windows 7/Virtual PC
*Windows XP on virtual machine of VMware etc.
*Embedded OS: Windows XP in a measurement or controller equipment such as oscilloscopes (Please contact manufacturer about support period of embedded OS in a equipment)
If you have special and official reasons that you can not shift from XP, please consult to the JLAN support office.
If you have any questions, please e-mail us at JLAN-Support office ( jlan-consult@j-parc.jp ).
