The 12th Korea-Japan Meeting on Neutron Science
Date: February 3-6, 2013
Venue: Research Exchange Facility 50th Anniversary Memorial Hall, University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan
Scope
Neutron science has been developed enormously over the past decades, and now widely accepted that it is essential for material science and engineering. Recently, Korea has established a research reactor, named HANARO, with a power of 30MW, and since then their activities on neutron science have grown up rapidly. Further, a high-intensity pulsed neutron source, J-PARC, has been constructed in Japan and started the user program from 2008. Under these circumstances, we realized that it is quite important to have a joint workshop between Japan and Korea with geological advantage, and exchange information and opinion on neutron science, instrumentation and device development.
The first Korea-Japan meeting on neutron science was held in 2000 in Japan, and since then we have had already 11 meetings bilaterally. All the previous meetings were quite successful and had fruitful discussion for both countries. As a result, it has promoted research collaboration in the several research fields such as radiography, material science by a powder diffractometer, material interface by a reflectometer and development of neutron optical devices. The expected increased collaboration between both countries may lead to direct investment in each other’s research facilities as well as exchange of information and personnel. Built upon the success of this joint workshop, new developments and collaborations between Korea and Japan will be expected.
