Request for Nomination for the next Director of J-PARC Center

   The J-PARC Center, which is jointly operated by the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) and the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), invites nominations for the next Director for the term starting on April 1, 2021.    JAEA and KEK have the unique strength in research and the facility utilization system. The Director of J-PARC Center is expected to manage the center with a full understanding of these strengths and the status of J-PARC as a "Global Public Facility" to maximize the research outcome while putting the first priority on users' needs. The nominee is requested to respect this fundamental management policy.

 

   In addition, the nominee should be a person of high integrity, having great insights into education and research. The nominee also should ensure the safety, maintenance and the upgrading of the large-scale accelerator research complex, address international cooperation and exchanges, development of human resources and compliance, and should make best efforts to build trust among neighbors in order to continue producing outstanding research outcomes. The nominee must also meet the following qualifications.

 

1) The nominee must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) and distinguished research achievements in the fields of either nuclear physics, elementary particle physics, accelerator science, materials science, life science or the research using the accelerator including nuclear transmutation.
 
2) The nominee also must have a perspective, leadership and an administrative ability in order to further improve the J-PARC Center as the world's cutting-edge large-scale research facility and to contribute to the development of science and technology.
 

   The term of the Director is three years, which can be once extended up to six years if re-elected.

   The term of the next Director is expected to start on April 1, 2021.
