Request for Nomination of Candidates for the Next Director of J-PARC Center

   The J-PARC Center, which is jointly operated by the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) and the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), invites nomination of candidates for the next Director for the term starting on April 1, 2024.    JAEA and KEK have unique strengths in research and the facility utilization system. The Director of J-PARC Center is expected to manage the center with a full understanding of its strengths and the status of J-PARC as a "Global Public Facility" to maximize the research outcomes while putting the first priority on users' needs. The nominee is required to respect this fundamental management policy.

 

   In addition, the nominee should be a person of high integrity with great insights into education and research. He/she should also ensure the safety, maintenance and upgrading of the large-scale accelerator research complex and address international cooperation and exchanges as well as the development of human resources and compliance. He/she is bound to make the best efforts to build trust among neighboring municipalities in order to continue producing outstanding research outcomes as well. The nominee must meet the following conditions.

 

1) The nominee must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) and distinguished research achievements in the fields of either nuclear physics, elementary particle physics, accelerator science, materials science, life science or the research using the accelerator including nuclear transmutation.
 
2) The nominee must have a vision, leadership and administrative skills necessary for the J-PARC Center to develop as the world's cutting-edge large-scale research facility and to contribute to the development of science and technology.
 

   The term of the Director is three years, the term of which may be extended up to six years if re-elected (If approved by both the organizations of JAEA and KEK, the Director may hold office for up to nine years).

   The benefits and conditions will be determined in accordance with the regulations of the organizations based on career, years of work experience, and so on.
