Apology for the schedule change
Dear all J-PARC users,
We regret to announce that the accelerator operation schedule has to be changed due to the delay of maintenance work of the MLF liquid mercury target.
A failure of the power manipulator, which is indispensable for the target maintenance, was found on Sept 18. Repairs to the manipulator have been completed and the target maintenance work is back on track now. However, roughly 3 weeks spent for the recovery caused the delay of the operation schedule.
For MLF, acceptance of the beam from RCS to MLF is delayed about 3 weeks from planned Nov. 21st. The already informed start date of the user program on January 17th is unchanged.
For the MR users, the beginning of the MR study and the user beam is delayed 8 days. Total MR user beam time in the rest of JFY2024 is unchanged by compensating the delay by adding user beam time in the end of March, 2025. The reason why the MR operation is affected is that the budgetary constraints due to the current rising electricity prices forced us to relocate a part of the LI/RCS operation scheduled in CY2024 to the end of March 2025 in order to recover a part of the MLF operation time.
The updated detailed schedule is announced immediately.
We deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused by this delay and also for the very late announcement. We had been making effort to minimize the impact on the schedule.
Takashi Kobayashi,
Director of J-PARC Center
